Fall has arrived along with the season of change at Sayward Hill Terrace. As our owners in 738 Sayward Hill Terrace relax and settle into their new homes and enjoy the views of the incredible fall colours along the golf course, our buyers at 748 Sayward Hill Terrace are planning their change of address and booking the moving trucks!
As we near completion of the next address along the Terrace, our construction and trades crews have continued to provide their excellent teamwork and craftsmanship to every aspect of the building. Although the address has changed, the entire compliment of consultants, trades and suppliers have merely moved down the Terrace and placed their stamp of pride and commitment on 748. We are preparing for issuance of our Occupancy Permit in early December and moving into the final process for completion and internal inspections. We are again implementing our 4-step Inspection Process with the fourth and final tour being the Orientation with the new homeowner. This process guarantees that the majority of any unfinished items are taken care of before the owners step foot into their completed home so that they too can settle in and relax soon after their move-in on January 31, 2008.
The exterior of the building is changing almost daily with the final touches being made to the landscaping. The crews from the Cordova Bay Golf Course have incorporated our continued theme of sustainable and native plantings which blend harmoniously into the natural park surroundings of Sayward Hill. A water feature will greet visitors at the entrance to the building and set the tone for the relaxed atmosphere that our Sayward Hill owners enjoy. |

More changes are taking place at the start of the Terrace at 758 Sayward Hill, with commencement of the 8-unit concrete and steel building. Progress is excellent and construction is already on schedule. Campbell Construction’s crews are forming up the parkade walls and readying the foundations and first floor slab with the many feet of rebar required. 758 Sayward Hill is the final phase along the Terrace and scheduled for completion in September 2008.
Over the next few months as Sayward Hill Terrace continues to change and as we enter into the winter season, we would like to take this opportunity to wish you a wonderful and festive holiday with happiness and prosperity throughout the coming… and changing, New Year! In the spirit of the season, our Sales Office will be closed December 24-26 & 31, 2007 and January 1, 2008. We will be available by appointment only during the holidays by calling (250) 882-5295.

The Federal Government has announced the reduction of GST from 6% to 5%, effective January 1, 2008.
Don't let that good news stop you from buying your new home in 2007. The GST payable on the purchase of a newly-built home is calculated on the date of possession of your home, not on the date of purchase!
So, the suite you buy now will be taxed at the lower future rate, saving you a substantial amount of money, anywhere from $7,200 to $12,000, based on our available inventory. And, those who have already purchased at Sayward Hill will see the same dramatic reduction at the time of completion of their purchase in 2008.
Feel free to call our Sales Office at (250) 658-4700 with any questions. Our office is open Monday to Friday, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and weekends and holidays by appointment only, or send us an email anytime to info@saywardhill.com. Please visit our website for further updates and new construction photos at www.saywardhill.com.

The contradicting charms of Cordova Bay.
by Jo Slade, Peninsula Times
I am charmed by Cordova Bay. I love that you can whip past time and time again on the highway and almost forget that you’re passing near a hidden treasure by the water. If you do turn off the highway at the Sayward exit to Cordova Bay, you find yourself in one of the longest left hand turn lanes ever, and I have to wonder, is this lane extra long because they are hoping you’ll change your mind and get back onto the highway?
Not to suggest they are anything but friendly in Cordova Bay, but ‘secluded’ is an understatement when describing the area. It is an eclectic mix of old, new, slow, bustling, fancy, plain, and somehow it all meshes in a nice Cordovian Bay sort of way. It is a great place to golf as well, it seems. Golfers who enjoy the interaction with nature that golf provides might be unaware of the enormously damaging environmental impact of the sport. According to a study by the Asia-Pacific Peoples Environment Network, golf development is becoming one of the most unsustainable and damaging activities to people and the environment. It is a growing concern, but with that concern comes a movement to find a better way, with solutions to the negative aspects of golf course development.
One example is the Cordova Bay Golf Course. The golf course, named one of the five great golf destinations by Golf Canada magazine, has been recognized for its commitment to a healthier environment. It received the 2005 Environmental Award from the District of Saanich, and was also designated as a Certified AudobonCooperative Sanctuary, recognition that came from their creation of a wildlife and habitat management program. Some of the measures taken included creating nesting boxes for Purple Martins, leaving safe dead trees standing, adding 37 gardens for birds, wildlife and native pollinators, naturalizing eight acres, banning use of insecticides, using pest resistant, stress tolerant and native plant materials, and reducing water use by 20%. Over 65 species of birds reside at the course, including Belted Kingfishers, Winter Wrens, Pileated Woodpeckers and Trumpeter Swans. The golf course is part of a development called Mattick’s Farm, once a real farm and now an interesting mix of housing, offices, restaurants, mini-golf, and small shops. It’s very upscale, and has, to me, something of a Lake Havasu feel to it. This village of seeming contradictions makes for a nice juxtapositional adventure, in a way. Enjoy a round of golf, followed by a meal at Bill Mattick’s restaurant or Adrienne’s Tea Garden restaurant, then go shopping at all sorts of nifty little shops... or head down to the water for a meal at Charter’s Restaurant at McMorran’s Beach House – which has been family owned and operated for over 80 years - followed by a stroll along the beach below. With its views of the San Juan Islands and Haro Strait, you seem to be back in a quieter time, when the pace was slower, life was simpler, and a walk along one of the prettiest beaches around was all it took to make you feel good about life. Next time you see that oh-so-long exit off the highway to Cordova Bay, take it. Find that hidden treasure, and enjoy!

In partnership with the Ministry of Labour and Citizens’ Services, Accommodation and Real Estate Services (ARES) and BC Hydro, Jawl Properties Ltd. is reviewing 14 buildings for energy use, waste management, water use and other environmental factors. Changes are being implemented in these buildings to reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions and the Carbon Footprint of the buildings and the resulting operating costs. As a member of BOMA, Jawl Properties will be pursuing Go Green certification for each building.
“Be the Change – Go for Green” is the motto developed for this initiative. This motto, combined with a tenant awareness program developed with the assistance of the partners in this initiative, will encourage people associated with the buildings to participate in a number of energy saving and conservation measures. The tenant awareness program is being launched in February 2008 and will include education, challenges and incentives.
As part of Jawl Properties’ commitment to environmental sustainability, the proposed new Atrium Building to be constructed at 1321 Blanshard Street in Victoria will aim to achieve LEED certification.
Information on challenges and winners will be posted on the website throughout 2008. For more information visit their website at www.jawlproperties.com or call (250) 475-0338. |
